From emergency relief to long-term development, Save the Children helps children to achieve a happy, healthy and secure childhood. Save the Children listens to children, involves children and ensures their views are taken into account. Save the Children secures and protects children's rights - to food, shelter, health care, education and freedom from violence, abuse and exploitation.

Save the Children & Initial

Save the Children is very happy to work with Initial on sanitation projects within her international education program. Together Save the Children and Initial are going to improve sanitation facilities at schools and implement hygiene education in the school programs.

The first combined project from Initial and Save the Children, regarding the sanitation issue, has started in Ivory coast.

Save the Children and hygiene

Hygiene is a very important part of the Save the Children programs. For instance, a basic activity such as hand-washing with soap can significantly reduce the incidence of diarrhoea, which is the second leading cause of death amongst children under five years old. Recent studies suggest that regular hand-washing with soap at critical times can reduce the number of diarrhoea bouts by almost 50 per cent.

A good health is one of the most valuable possessions in a persons life. Without a good health people are not capable of doing anything, let alone help others around them. Just with a basic knowledge of hygiene many illnesses can be prevented and lives can be saved.
